As an artificially created city whose growth is tightly controlled, Abuja is a cultural as well as urban foreign body within Nigeria. The influx into the city is hampered by expensive housing, and the former capital Lagos is still the main destination for immigrants from rural areas. Abuja does not correspond to the other realities of Nigeria or Africa. The city is clean and safe compared to other cities in the country. Many companies, including foreign ones, have now settled in the Central District. In the city were also created some parks and green areas. In the wealthy Asokoro District are the houses of many rich Nigerians, also the presidential palace can be found there.
