Large parts of inland Mongolia in east-central China have mountainous character. North of the capital Ulan Bator runs the range of the Khentiy Mountains. Further to the west, Lake Chöwsgöl is nestled in a forested, mountainous taiga landscape.
Best time to visit: Due to the rainy summer, spring is more favorable for the northern areas, while for the west and south (Gobi) the autumn months are more suitable.
