“The Caribbean of the Orient”
Even today, the guest in Oman feels like in a fairy tale from 1,001 nights. Palaces, lively markets, men in traditional floor-length robes bring the magic of the Orient to life.
Airports, well-developed roads and shopping centers with modern architecture have long been part of everyday life in Oman. Culturally, Oman is also considered one of the most cosmopolitan Islamic states. Tradition and modernity, religion and hospitality go hand in hand here.
Salalah, the second largest city in the south of the Sultanate in Dhofar Province, is a worthwhile destination. In only 7 hours Eurowings brings you from Germany (Cologne) directly to Salalah. A flight from Salzburg to Cologne can be booked with pleasure in addition. And with only two hours time difference, the vacation starts on the first day – without any jet lag.
Salalah East & West
This excursion will give you a first insight into the culture, history and beauty of the vacation region. First you will visit the old fishing village of Taqah and its fortress. Continue to the ancient excavation sites of the ancient port city of “Sumharam”. The drive takes you to Mughsail beach where you can enjoy a great view of the Indian Ocean and the “Blow Holes”.
Jebel Safari
With four-wheel drive vehicles you will experience a special safari in the Dhofar Mountains. At Taqah Plateau you will make the first photo stop and enjoy a fantastic panoramic view over the coast. The beautiful vegetation and the herds of camels, goats and cattle offer a varied picture on the way to the next stop “Tawi Attair” – one of the world’s largest sinkholes (211m deep & 150m diameter). You will reach the mountain ranges of Jebel Samhan at an altitude of 1,700m, also known as the Grand Canyon of Dhofar.
Wonderful Salalah
The tour begins with an interior visit to the Sultan Qaboos Mosque. Then visit the National Museum of Incense. After a short photo stop at the Al Husn Palace of the Sultan, stroll through the incense souk, where you will find not only incense, but also many typical and traditional goods for the region.
Desert Safari & Ubar
By off-road vehicle you will drive to the ancient ruined city of Urbar, which is also known as the “Atlantis of the desert” and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. On the way back we will cross dunes of the Rub Al Khali desert back to Salalah.
Dolphin Safari
Oman’s coast is a year-round home to dolphins and whales of various species. On the dolphin watching tour you will have the opportunity to see these fascinating marine mammals in their natural environment and learn more about the creatures of the sea.
